Terror attack in Israel: two killed and five wounded

Shooting on Herbert Samuel Street in Israeli Hadera led to the death of two people, five were injured. The terrorists have been destroyed.

According to the publication “Israel News”, the police classified the incident as a terrorist attack, law enforcement officers are looking for a car that delivered the terrorists – two bearded men – to the scene. Entrances to Hadera are blocked.

The press service of MADA (Israeli ambulance) reports that medical assistance was provided to five victims. Three of them were hospitalized in the Hillel Yafe hospital in a moderate condition. Two more people were taken to the hospital in serious condition. All the wounded are bystanders, the first victims are MAGAV police officers.

The terrorists were destroyed by the fire of MAGAV special forces who happened to be nearby, who were in civilian clothes. This was the reason for the confusion that arose in the first moments in police official reports. There is a suspicion that the terrorists were citizens of Israel.

According to updated information, the terrorists shot and killed the MAGAV fighters – a young man and a girl who were at the bus stop. After that, the criminals took the weapon from one of the victims and opened fire on the police. The terrorists were shot dead by the MAGAV workers who dined at a nearby restaurant. According to the police’s initial information, the terrorists were residents of Umm al-Fahm.

The Islamic State, banned in many countries, claimed responsibility for the incident. Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennet urged citizens to remain vigilant and said the country’s security forces must adapt to the new threat.

Benny Gantz, Secretary of Defense, called an emergency meeting of the heads of the security services. Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Homeland Security Minister Omer Bar-Lev traveled to the scene of the attack, which coincided with the opening of a summit of foreign ministers with the participation of the UAE, Bahrain, Egypt and Morocco. Foreign Minister Yair Lapid said he had briefed the Negev Summit about the attack:

“All participants of the summit condemned this attack, expressed condolences to the families of the victims and wishes for recovery to the wounded. Today’s heinous terrorist attack is an attempt by violent extremists to spread fear and disrupt the course of our lives. I express my condolences to the families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to the injured. The State of Israel will fight terrorism uncompromisingly, and we, together with our allies, will stand firm against anyone who tries to harm us.”

Islamic Jihad in Gaza hailed the attack and declared it “the answer to the villainous summit.”

On this evening 20 years ago, on March 27, 2002, a Palestinian terrorist blew himself up in the restaurant of the Park Hotel in Netanya at the height of the Passover Seder. The victims were 30 Israeli civilians, most of them over 70 years old.
