Arrests of arms and drug dealers

A drug and arms trafficking criminal group operating in Heraklion, Rethymno and Attica has been eliminated by Greek law enforcement. Four people were arrested and criminal proceedings were initiated against them.

The suppression of the illegal activities of the attackers was the result of many months of systematic and specialized police investigations carried out by the Organized Crime Directorate of the General Regional Police Directorate of Crete, while operational activities were taking place in other regions in parallel.

Detained four people – three Greeks and a foreigner, against whom a criminal case was initiated on the facts of creation and participation in a criminal group, as well as violations of the legislation on drugs and weapons.

How the criminal group acted
According to information received from a source in the Greek police, the criminals have been operating since at least August 2020, the gang members strictly adhered to the hierarchy, each had their own role.

The attackers carried out their illegal actions in stages: buying, transporting and further promoting for the illicit trafficking and sale of drugs, supplying weapons to potential buyers in the wider region of Crete and Attica with the aim of illicit enrichment.

During the police operation, the houses, businesses, warehouses, vehicles and agricultural land of all those who were members of the criminal group (districts of the prefectures of Heraklion, Rethymno and Attica) were searched.

It all started when one of the bandits was caught red-handed during the transfer (sale) of weapons. After the man was immobilized, a search was conducted at his house and in his car. In total, it was found and seized:

2 Kalashnikov assault rifles; rifle; 722 rounds; cash in the amount of EUR 1,795; mobile phone.

After that, the police conducted searches in the homes and businesses of other detainees, during which they found and confiscated: 6,230 euros, 6 pistols, a revolver, a stock, a rifle, a shotgun, a hunting rifle, a pistol holster, pepper spray, 152 cartridges of various types and calibers, knife, ammunition and drugs.

The investigation continues to be conducted by the Organized Crime Directorate of the Regional General Directorate of Police of Crete.
