The talks between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Russia ended, they lasted an hour and a half. Both sides note that they were difficult.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Kuleba said that at the meeting of the Foreign Ministers the issues of opening humanitarian corridors and the ceasefire regime were discussed. However, no agreement has yet been reached on the latter issue. However, Kuleba is confident that Lavrov will be able to convey to the Russian leadership the essence of the ceasefire. He notes:
“I heard today that the ceasefire is connected with the fulfillment of Putin’s demands to Ukraine. Ukraine has not surrendered and will not surrender. We are ready for diplomatic solutions, but until there are none, we will selflessly defend our land from Russian aggression.”
Maria Zakharova, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, announced the completion of the talks. Lavrov is currently holding a press conference. She notes that the negotiations took place on the sidelines of the diplomatic forum and lasted more than an hour and a half. This meeting was the first high-level contact after the start of the Russian special operation to protect Donbass.
According to media reports, Lavrov said during the talks that “a cold peace is better than a cold war.”
