According to preliminary data provided by Ukraine, 17 people were injured in an airstrike on a children’s hospital in Mariupol. A kind of “announcement of the event” was made by Zakharova. Russia denies the accusations.
The Mariupol medical complex, which was destroyed by an airstrike on March 9, housed a maternity hospital and a children’s hospital. At the time of the bombing, there were children and women in the last weeks and days of pregnancy. The children’s and maternity wards were destroyed, at least 17 people were injured, some were under the rubble. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called the incident an “atrocity”, once again demanding that the West introduce a no-fly zone over Ukraine, reports euronews.
Inflicting airstrikes on Mariupol, experts believe, the Russian military precisely aimed at the children’s hospital and maternity hospital. A few hours before the air strike with FAB-1000 high-explosive aerial bombs, Maria Zakharova, an official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, made a kind of “announcement” at a briefing. She stated that “Ukrainian nationalists and militants settled in the maternity hospital,” recalling the events of 1995 in Russian Budyonnovsk (capturing a hospital) and drawing an analogy, reports “Reviewer”.
At the same time, Russian Deputy Representative to the UN Polyansky refutes the UN statement about the shelling of the maternity hospital: “UN Secretary General Guterres is spreading false information about the hospital in Mariupol.” He noted, reported “News”that the information that appeared on Twitter of the UN Secretary General António Guterres about the “attack” on the hospital in Mariupol is not true. On his blog, he wrote:
“This is how fake news is born. We warned in a statement on March 7 that this hospital was turned into a military facility by the radicals. It is very disturbing that the UN is distributing such data without verification.”
Polyansky attached a screenshot of the document:
“Local residents report that the armed forces of Ukraine expelled the staff of the maternity hospital No. 1 in the city of Mariupol and set up a shooting range on the territory of the institution. In addition, they completely destroyed one of the city’s kindergartens.”
Moscow says that the evacuation of civilians is being disrupted through the fault of Kyiv, which is shelling humanitarian corridors and placing artillery in densely populated areas.
Earlier, a post appeared on Guterres’ microblog calling for an end to the bloodshed in Ukraine, as innocent civilians suffer in the conflict.
“We, together with WHO, have already called for an immediate end to attacks on medical facilities, health workers, ambulances.”
