The Greek-Turkish Economic Committee resumed work after an 11-year break

Eleven years later, the Greek-Turkish Joint Economic Committee met again in Athens and concluded its negotiations with the signing of a protocol between Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy and Openness Kostas Fragoyannis and Turkish Deputy Minister of Trade Mustafa Tuzku.

According to a joint statement, the heads of the two delegations expressed their satisfaction with the resumption of the work of the committee, which last met more than 11 years ago in Ankara in October 2010.

The parties expressed their readiness to continue work to achieve progress on the issues included in the so-called. “positive agenda”, with a focus on promoting economic cooperation and trade between the two countries.

Issues discussed by the committee included:

Bilateral trade and prospects for differentiation and promotion of trade operations. Initiatives to invest and encourage businesses to set up joint ventures in Greece and Turkey. Expanding cooperation in the energy sector to ensure energy sufficiency. Cooperation in the field of environmental protection, waste management, water resources and issues related to climate change. Cooperation in the field of transport. Trade operations related to food and agricultural products. Resumption of bilateral cooperation in research and technology.

With regard to tourism, both sides expressed satisfaction with the progress of bilateral cooperation in this field during the 4th meeting of the Greek-Turkish Joint Committee on Tourism and the 9th Turkish-Greek Tourism Forum held in November 2021 in Izmir. They reaffirmed their commitment to explore ways to expand cooperation in order to increase tourist flows between the two countries.
