Snow on the beach: "Elpis" wrapped in snow Mykonos, Tinos, Andros and Naxos

The first shock wave of bad weather “Elpis” fell on the islands of the Cyclades since yesterday, Saturday 22 January.

According to cyclades24.gr, the municipalities of the archipelago were put on full alert to withstand the bad weather. Snowplows are ready, and competent services will be on duty 24 hours a day.

On several islands, such as Andros, Tinos, Naxos and Mykonos, it is already snowing, a sharp drop in air temperature has been recorded.

On Andros, heavy snowfall was recorded in the villages of Vurkoti and Arni, and on some sections of the provincial road network, traffic was carried out only with anti-skid chains.

It is noted that movement on the island is prohibited until 10 am in Vurkoti, Arni, Remat and Katakilo due to extreme weather events.

On Naxos, the first snow fell yesterday around 19:00 in Aperanthos, as shown in the video footage. This morning the snow continued to lie in a lush cover.

It is noted that the municipality of Naxos and the Lesser Cyclades has issued an appeal and urges citizens to be careful during the passage of an unfavorable weather front. It was decided to suspend the work of primary and secondary schools, as well as municipal kindergartens on Monday and Tuesday 24 and 25 January due to extreme weather conditions, frost and snowfall.

“Elpis” also walked around the island of Tinos, almost the entire island was dressed in white, according to tinostoday.

It has been snowing in Mykonos since the early hours of the morning, giving the island’s famous beaches a very unusual look, according to mykonoslive.

Snowfall on Syros began on Saturday evening. And is currently in full swing.

In areas such as Apano Meria, Ano Syros, Piskopio, Alitini, Chryssa, Anastasi, as well as in other parts of the island, the snowfall was more intense.

Snow fell on flat areas, even in Ermoupolis, and on Sunday this phenomenon only intensified. So far, problems have arisen only in the Apano Meria area, some roads have been blocked due to heavy snowfall. Traveling around the island is recommended to be done with extreme caution.
