Cyclone "Elpis": in which areas will snow fall in the coming hours

Bad weather “Elpis” hit Greece in the early morning, and in some areas, in addition to the onset of frost, it also snowed.

According to the latest meteorological forecast, locally, light snowfall or sleet is expected today, January 22, even at low altitudes in the Eastern mainland of Greece, in the North Aegean and Northeast Peloponnese region, according to the National Meteorological Service of Athens.

In the Cyclades, Crete and Dodecanese, rain and thunderstorms are expected, which may be accompanied by hail.

Traffic has been restored along Dionysos Avenue (Penteli ring road) from the height of Agios Petros to Penteli and along Dionysos Street (Dionysus ring road) from height “414” to Nea Makri. However, Parnithos Avenue remains closed from the height of the cable car in both traffic flows.

“Elpis” has transformed the “Buffy” mountain shelter on Parnit, turning the surroundings into a “winter fairy tale”. On Mount Immitos, snow cover is also visible in the morning.

On the night from Saturday to Sunday, local rains or sleet are possible even at low altitudes. Local snowfalls are expected at altitudes of more than 300-400 meters in the western part of the Peloponnese. Snowfall is highly likely in Evia and the North Aegean region.
