Increase in the price of natural gas by 180% and by 37.9% of electricity

Prices in Greece are skyrocketing, reaching 180% and breaking the record for inflation.

According to data for November this year, inflation reached 4.8%, which is the average for the euro area.

Compared to November 2020, prices have increased:

for gas by 180%, for heating oil by 45.2%, for electricity by 37.8%.

Lamb and goat meat prices rose 21.3%, olive oil 18.5% and potatoes 11%.

Analytically, inflation in November rose to 4.8%, setting a new record according to ELSTAT data. Comparison of the general CPI (Consumer Price Index) for November 2021 with the corresponding index for November 2020 resulted in an increase of 4.8% compared with a decrease of 2.1% that occurred in the corresponding comparison of 2020 with 2019.

The general CPI in November 2021 compared to October 2021 showed an increase of 0.5% compared to a decrease of 0.9% in the corresponding comparison of the previous year.

The average CPI for the twelve months from December 2020 to November 2021, compared with the corresponding index for the twelve months from December 2019 to November 2020, showed an increase of 0.6%, compared with a decrease of 1.0% in the corresponding period. time from 2018 to 2019.

In November, the harmonized consumer price index (εναρμονισμένος δείκτης τιμών καταναλωτή) in Greece reached 4.3%.

The wave of inflation is expected to last longer than originally expected until mid-2022, in terms of energy prices. Although, according to experts, prices in the segment of goods and services may decrease in the spring of 2022.
