Greek police officer arrested in Turkey. Foreign Ministry demands an explanation

A Greek police officer and a woman accompanying him were arrested in Turkey while traveling to a neighboring country. The arrest mobilized the Greek police, as well as the Greek Foreign Ministry, demanding an explanation from the Turkish authorities.

The 41-year-old policeman was traveling to Turkey through the Kipi customs point on an ancient excursion with a woman, according to the newspaper. evros-news.gr… The authors of the publication say that it is not known where exactly the citizens of Greece were arrested, although the initial information spoke of the Edirne area.

According to unconfirmed reports from the Turkish side, the couple ended up in a “restricted area”, while a police officer photographed objects on the border from the Turkish side. It is reported that the mobile phones of Greek citizens are not working.

It should be noted that the policeman requested and received a special permit to travel to Turkey, as it is necessary for those who serve in the power structures of Greece.

The Foreign Ministry requested a full explanation from the Turkish authorities and mobilized the Greek Embassy in Ankara, as well as the consulates in Edirne and Istanbul.
