Why did a 25-year-old young man die in a rehabilitation center in Thessaloniki

A young man who was beaten at the Agios Dimitrios rehabilitation center for people with disabilities in Thessaloniki died of a cerebral hemorrhage.

Based on the results of the autopsy, the forensic scientist named the causes of death: cerebral hemorrhage and myocardial ischemia, reports ΑΠΕ-ΜΠΕ. To clarify all the circumstances, the results of the toxicological examination are pending. The young man had no history of coronary artery disease. Most likely, the ischemic attack was a reaction to the severe stress he experienced.

Vasiliki Naku, President of the Center for Social Protection of Central Macedonia, made an official statement that the deceased was beaten and taken to the Papanikolaou hospital in Thessaloniki 24 hours after the incident for assistance. On Tuesday, due to the deterioration of his condition due to the aftermath of the fight, the beaten patient died. Police sources say the hospital described the death as sudden, the Athens News Agency reported.

According to the information, the indictment in the death case described an incident with the use of violence against the deceased by another person and the negligent behavior of a center employee in relation to this incident.

The Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Domna Mihajlidu filed a lawsuit against the perpetrators of the incident against the prosecutor of the Supreme Court Vasilis Pliotas, demanding a complete clarification of the circumstances of the death.

According to initial data, young man was beaten last Sunday while in a rehabilitation center for the disabled in Thessaloniki. According to the newspaper, the beating took place during a fight that took place between two patients of the institution. One of them was in an extremely agitated state.

The rehabilitation center employee who was caring for the two patients made no attempt to stop the fight. Vasiliki Naku, president of the Social Welfare Center of Central Macedonia, ordered an administrative review of the incident.

As it turned out, this center is not the first time involved in a scandal… In April 2018, the court considered the case of ill-treatment of three patients of the rehabilitation structure, with the sentencing of the guilty, albeit with a delay in the execution of the sentence.
