Expert: school closures are not even discussed

Rumors of school closures due to the coronavirus outbreak were again denied by Education Minister Niki Kerameos, thanking the teachers for their help in complying with the sanitary protocol and measures to combat COVID-19.

“There is no talk of closing schools where protocols are followed. Of course, the more cases there will be in the community, the more will be observed in schools, ”said Ms Kerameos speaking on ERT.

“Students undergo self-tests twice a week. In addition, all their close people with whom they come in contact (family) in one way or another, are either vaccinated, or ultimately undergo a rapid test. I think this is enough,” said the minister education, adding that “thanks to the testing mechanism in schools, the diagnosis is made earlier and asymptomatic carriers can be detected in time. This way we are able to stop the spread of the virus.”

Ms Kerameos agreed with Ms Papaevangelu, telling ERT that “schools are closely monitoring the situation.” “Obviously, the more cases in the community, the more schools are affected. If you look at the number of cases, in schools we have more cases in areas with low vaccination coverage and less in areas with higher, ”concluded the minister.
