90-year-old marathon runner finished 38th

Stelios Prassas, despite turning 90 this year, says his legs are “as light as wings.” Prassas is the oldest athlete to run the 38th Athens Marathon on Sunday.

His grandchildren and family were waiting for him at the Panathinaikos stadium and were happy when he arrived at the finish line. Together with his grandchildren, he took the last steps.

“I was very happy. As soon as I ran the first kilometers, I was applauded and I was happy. This is the only thing that gives us great joy and gives us great vitality to be able to run and finish,” Prassas told the media.

The veteran footballer was 59 when others were preparing for retirement. His neighbor is a runner who encouraged him to run with him. He loved marathon sports and has never stopped since.

He has run several marathons in Greece and 20 other countries.

“I run as my heart and my body tell me. With every new dag, I really love life. I live it. Life is beautiful because we are moving, ”Prassas was quoted by the state-run broadcaster ERT.
