Usyk defeated Joshua to become world champion

The fight between two Olympic champions on Sunday night, Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk and Briton Anthony Joshua, ended with a unanimous decision: Usyk won and became the owner of the WBA (Super), WBO, IBF and IBO belts.

Alexander became the new world champion and the third boxer in history, after Evander Holyfield and David Haye, who won heavy and heavyweight titles.

In the career of a Ukrainian boxer, today’s fight is the 18th victory, in the professional ring he remains undefeated. Joshua suffered a second defeat. The fight took place in London, at the new stadium of Tottenham Football Club in London.

In the opening minutes, the power of the British and the speed of the Ukrainian converged. Usik’s reconnaissance was quite lengthy, but in the third round his left lateral to the head Anthony showed that the single combat would not be easy. And so it turned out. In the last round, the Ukrainian almost knocked out his opponent, but Anthony saved the gong.

The first two rounds were held in equal combat. In the third Usyk hit Anthony several times, and in the fourth the rivals exchanged accurate powerful blows. In the fifth or sixth round, Joshua was in more control of the situation. But in the seventh-eighth Usyk accelerated and attacked the Briton more. But in the ninth round, Joshua acted much more confidently, who struck several blows.

In the tenth round, Usyk received an eyebrow cut, and Joshua’s right eye “swam”. In the twelfth, the Ukrainian went on the attack and in the last seconds squeezed the opponent on the ropes, the referee did not stop the fight. The result of the 12-round fight was a unanimous referee’s decision: 117-112, 116-112, 115-113. The Ukrainian boxer commented on his victory as follows:

The fight went exactly as I expected. There were a couple of times when Anthony pushed me hard, but nothing special. I had no intention of knocking him out. At first I tried my best to knock him out, but my coach said, “No, do your job.” I’ve been working so hard since January preparing for this fight. It took me half a year, and I haven’t seen my family for so long. I miss my kids. I want to go home and see my family, and at the moment I am not thinking about a rematch. You have not seen the best Usyk, I can be much better.
