Showers and storms throughout Greece

Intense weather events are occurring across Greece, with showers, thunderstorms and storms continuing until late evening, while the mercury drops and winds of up to Force 8 hit the Aegean Sea.

According to the Meteorological Service of the National Observatory of Athens, showers and thunderstorms are observed in most parts of the country. In some places they are particularly intense – in the northern regions of Crete, in the westernmost parts of Central Macedonia, in Eastern Thessaly and in Evia. It rained throughout the night in the Karditsa region, while severe thunderstorms and hail were reported in Crete.

Heavy rain caused serious problems on the BOAK track. In particular, landslides occurred on the road shortly after Fodele on the slopes. In the Lentas area, one tourist, trying to cross the road on a motorcycle, was in danger of being swept away by a torrent caused by a rainstorm. On Friday (10/5) at dawn the skies opened up in Lamia where the intensity of the rainfall was very heavy.
