“Quiz, please!”: battles of Athens, where the atmosphere and outlook decide everything

Surely Everyone is familiar with the classic struggles of trying to plan a fun evening with company. At first, you can barely choose the right bar, and once there, you can’t get your friends out of your phone.

One of these evenings I decided: “I'm over it”. I began to look for alternatives to make it both fun and interesting (and this is not as easy as it might seem).

I'll upset you right away: The choice turned out to be small, and my friends were too picky. It was then that I came across a page of intellectual games “Quiz, please!” on Instagram. It turned out that Quiz, please! is an intellectual and entertaining battle that has been shaking Athens for more than half a year. Rather for the sake of experimentation, I registered myself and my friends as a team of participants. Gathered in front of the bar, we joked about how we skipped school and how we would regret it now (spoiler: we didn’t do it). The game took place at the Hard Rock Cafe, at Adrianou 52 in Athens, the most convenient location in the heart of the city (Monastiraki metro station), the bar itself is very pleasant and stylish.

Other teams were already arriving at the bar, some of them were clearly not participating for the first time. Some were looking forward to a rematch and were talking about prizes, while others, like us, just wanted to understand whether it was possible to unite such different teams (from students, couples with children, those over 60, to eligible bachelors like us).

When the game began to cheerful music and jokes from the host, everything became clear. The questions turned out to be from completely different areas: from gameplay to chemical reactions and logic questions, as in “What? Where? When?”. It was impossible to predict which area needed to be refreshed in my head. We used our knowledge of history, the Rick and Morty series, pop culture, and many other topics. The entire game was displayed on the screen and voiced by the presenter.

If at the beginning of the game we were just joking while answering, while at the same time choosing dishes from the menu, then by the middle of the battle our team aroused passion and a real desire to win! “Well, do you remember the name? Let's bet +2! What do they give for first place?” – it seemed that we were the loudest team in the establishment, but at every table the fire of the game was burning.

2.5 hours flew by, and I learned a lot of new information about my friends. People open up from a completely different side when you see them in a fit of vivid emotions on the way to victory. Unfortunately, we did not get a prize, so the teams “Quiz, please!” It's better not to relax. We will fight again!
