The Greek Navy frigate HYDRA intercepted two drones launched by the Houthis against a merchant ship in the Gulf of Aden on Thursday.
At dawn on Wednesday (13/03), the Greek frigate HYDRA carried out its first combat operation in the Red Sea, as part of the protection of a merchant ship in the Gulf of Aden, firing at two Houthi drones.
One of the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) was destroyed, and the second was “driven away,” the General Staff said in a statement.
The frigate HYDRA escorted a merchant ship as part of Operation EUNAVFOR ASPIDES, the General Staff added.
They emphasized that after the incident, the frigate continued to carry out its mission as usual.
Late December 2023, Greece sent warships to the Red Sea to take part in the coalition created by the US to fight the threat from Yemen's Houthis.
During her duty, the frigate HYDRA repelled several Houthi drone attacks.
