Fire season restrictions start earlier: in Crete, southern and northern Aegean islands

Fire season restrictions start early on Crete and the South and North Aegean islands, effective Monday 15 April 2024.

Restrictions apply to the use of fire outdoors and, in particular, in rural areas. Violators face severe fines and arrests.

The fire season is starting earlier than in any other year due to high temperatures and limited precipitation this winter, leading to an increased risk of fires starting and spreading. The corresponding decision was made by the coordinator of operations in the north, south of the Aegean and Crete, Georgios Tsikalas.

It is worth noting that from the beginning of spring 2024 it has been warm in Greece, and since early April And hot weatherexceeding the average monthly temperature for that period of the year by 10 degrees.

Forest fires in 2024 began very early, at the end of March, and, according to experts, firefighters will have a lot of work this year…
