Greece: minimum wage rises to 830 euros

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Friday announced an increase in the minimum wage to 830 euros per month from April 1, 2024. He made this statement during a cabinet meeting.

The increase is 6.4%, effectively 50 euros gross per month, with the minimum wage increasing to 830 euros from 780 euros from April 2023. The increase will also affect benefits and other payments. In particular, unemployment benefits will increase from 479 euros to 510 euros.

The minimum wage increase will affect about 600,000 workers, and the increase in unemployment benefits will affect another 140,000 people. This is the fourth increase in the minimum wage since 2019.

General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) noted in her statement that “Increasing the minimum wage does not meet the needs of workers.” “This increase in no way guarantees that a person receiving the minimum wage will not fall below the poverty line and will have a decent standard of living,” – added to GSEE.

The Workers' Confederation recalled that it had decided to hold a national strike on April 17, 2024.
