Turkish warships moored at the port of Piraeus

Two Turkish warships arrived at the port of Piraeus as part of a NATO task force.

The cruisers TCG Anamur and TCG Amasra, owned by the Turkish Navy, arrived in Greece as part of Ομάδας Εργασίας Μόνιμων Ναρκών του NATO-2, SNMCMG-2. The day before, Turkish Ambassador Çağatay Erciges visited the warship TCG Anamur and took part in the iftar held on board. Iftar is a fasting meal for Muslims during Ramadan, which is eaten immediately after the Maghrib prayers (evening prayer in Islam, performed after sunset. The fourth of the five obligatory daily prayers performed by Muslims. The five daily prayers together form the second of the five pillars of Islam).

The Turkish Ambassador earlier received ship captains at the embassy. Then a solemn ceremony was held at the cemetery of Turkish martyrs in Piraeus with the participation of ship crew members and embassy staff. The Martyrs' Cemetery contains the graves of Turkish soldiers who were taken to Athens after the Balkan Wars and the First World War.
