Increase in tolls on Egnatia Odos to 120%

After the signing of the joint ministerial decision by the Ministers of Infrastructure and Economy, there will inevitably be a significant increase in tolls on the Egnatia Odos (Igoumenitsa-Kipi Evrosa) road.

According to the Egnatia Odos Workers' Association who are protesting, the increase will be up to 120% over three years! It is expected that Egnatia Odos will pass from the control of the Greek state into the hands of the GEK TERNA SA (75%)-EGIS PROJECTS SA (25%) consortium for a period of 35 years. The signing of the concession agreement is scheduled for Thursday, March 28, 2024. However, the Ministers of Infrastructure and the Economy previously signed a joint ministerial decision on the toll increase, which must be published in the Government Gazette to take effect, and which is described as astronomical as it will reach 120% within three years – with 0.03 euros per kilometer to 0.065 euros per kilometer.

In particular, the toll will immediately increase from 0.03 euros per kilometer to 0.04 euros per kilometer. It is expected to rise to 0.065 over the next three years. It is also expected that free travel on the Egnatia road for local residents and the unemployed will be withdrawn immediately.

The new prices provoked a reaction from employees of Egnatia Odos SA, who went on strike on Thursday 28 March 2024 and also released a statement highlighting the problems the new prices would bring.
