“Disappointing” second poorest EU country

Publication of Eurostat report that Greece is the second poorest country in the world EUsecond only to Bulgaria, was a major blow to the Mitsotakis government's narrative of economic growth and good governance.

This is due to the fact that the publication was made several days after Moody's decided not to evaluate Greeceso as not to put the government in an awkward position (with A. Tsiprasa was not bothered by this, which once again confirms the political bias of these rating agencies). And all because Deep State still supports Kyriakos Mitsotakis because he is useful while there is a war in Ukraine.

A big role in the impoverishment of the country, of course, was played by the high prices that the Greeks have been experiencing in the last two or three years, since if you carefully observe the prices of food (for all products), you can see that they have at least doubled.

But Greek salaries did not double… A general increase in the minimum wage by 10-15% cannot cope with a sudden and sharp doubling of individual and family budget expenses. And yet the government constantly claims that citizens live in unprecedented “affluence”, when in fact very few manage to make ends meet.

Against the backdrop of a wave of price pressure sweeping through the market and stagnant wages Greek citizens lag behind citizens of all countriesfaced with an economic crisis in previous years, and all the countries of the former Eastern bloc (Czech Republic, Lithuania, Romania, Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia, Latvia), which traditionally occupy the bottom lines of the list, with the exception of Bulgaria.

And since it's always good to talk about facts, the Eurostat report for 2017 also found Greece in a dire situation, but at that time it was the third poorest country in the EU, ahead of Bulgaria and Romania. However, in 2024, Romania overtook Greece, moving to 3rd place.

MEP Giorgos Kyrtsos wrote in a post on X: Greece is officially the second poorest country in the 27-nation European Union, with Bulgaria being the poorest. We have the second lowest gross domestic product (GDP) per capita. The harsh truth of official statistics!

So if the economic narrative of the Mitsotakis government was correct, the country should have risen at least a few places. But not only did she not rise, but on the contrary, she fell to the penultimate place, and all that was left in the end was to “win” the last place.

A flimsy narrative was created that the economy was booming, GDP was rising, the debt-to-GDP ratio was falling, banks were making windfall profits. But none of this reflects the truth, since Greece is relying on temporary high-yield mechanisms that will not last forever.

Meanwhile, there is no serious economic production in the country, and every summer Greece waits for tourists to leave their money so that Greek society can “function” in the winter. The question arises, how does the government maintain the narrative of an economic miracle when the facts show a completely different reality?

Moody's knew about this. And yet, some serious people from the Deep State demanded that the Americans give Greece an investment grade rating. Apparently they didn't add…
