Marita Fragaki was the first woman to obtain a driving license in Crete.
The venerable lady was the first female driver in the Messara area and, possibly, on the entire island. At the age of 97 she was awarded a certificate of honor. And she explained the reason why she is still “sitting behind the wheel.”
Ms. Fragaki was awarded at an event organized by the municipality of Festa on the occasion of Women’s Day, neakriti.gr reports. During the presentation, the priest mentioned that she continues to drive despite her age and asked her to stop (not to put herself at risk).
Then the elderly woman explained why she must remain behind the wheel. After her sister’s death, she took care of her paraplegic nephew and moved into his house. “I don’t just ‘ride’ in the car,” she said into the microphone, “but I have to move around – ‘go to my house’ for the necessary things, and also to the pharmacy for medicine.”
It is known that in Greece there are many centenarians, and active ones. But look at how things stand with this in China.
