CCTV cameras recorded the moment of a powerful explosion that occurred early on Monday morning (March 11) in one of the shops in Kallithea.
It all happened around three o’clock in the morning, when an explosion occurred in a wine shop (cave) located on Alexandru Pandu street, which was so strong that was heard within a radius of several kilometers, spreading beyond the region.
As it became known, the store was completely destroyed. At the scene, explosive ordnance disposal recovered explosives, a slow-burning fuse and a detonator.
The moment of the explosion in Kallithea
As can be seen in the video footage, the explosion was so powerful that it shook the entire area, causing damage (except for the wine cellar) to nearby apartment buildings, as well as parked cars, some of which were even completely destroyed. The deafening sound indicates the strength of the morning explosion.
As seen in footage broadcast by Greek media this morning, adjacent residential buildings were also seriously damaged.
A resident of the area speaking on camera this morning Open, said: “Around 03:00 at night I heard a loud noise and got scared. The apartment building literally shook. I thought it would fall apart.
The blast wave broke the windows in the apartments. I was lying in bed, and the fragments fell right on me. The blanket saved me. I went out onto the balcony to see what happened. I see smoke. There was a smell of burnt rubber. I went downstairs because there was no light either – the fuses had burned out from the explosion. The entire entrance was destroyed, windows up to the fifth floor were broken.”
