“This is unacceptable. We can’t stop shaking. We see paint residue and it’s like we see blood. It’s creepy. I don’t understand what they think they can do. Do they really think that by erasing these names they can erase the memories and pain of the families? I mean, this is really unacceptable. These names should have been left here until something was done to bring justice to these families who pass through Calvary every day.” – said one of the students who was at Syntagma during the student rally.

Athens Mayor Haris Doukas belatedly issued a statement on Facebook calling it a disgrace that Athens municipal officials erased the names of Tempi crime victims written by young people in front of the Monument to the Unknown Soldier as a disgrace. “Apologies alone are not enough” – wrote Haris Doukas. – The Municipality of Athens, through its actions, will ensure that the names of the victims of Tempi will never be erased from our collective memory.”

As Mr Doukas noted, “at the next municipal council I will propose the creation of a monument to the victims of Tempi. The Municipality of Athens adds its voice to the voice of citizens for justice”concluded the mayor of Athens.

“A cleaning crew from the Municipality of Athens erased the names of the victims of the Tempi tragedy written in Syntagma Square last night by request of parliament security. I categorically declare that I never ordered this and was not informed of this unjustified action, which I categorically oppose. The criticism leveled at me is completely justified. “I apologize to the families and thousands of citizens, including myself, who demonstrated to demand justice for the Tempi victims.” – Roxana Bey, Deputy Mayor for Cleanliness of the Municipality of Athens, said in a statement.
