Drones are being added to the traffic police’s arsenal to ease traffic congestion in Attica during rush hour.
Thanks to aerial surveillance of the main road arteries of Attica, the work of the Traffic Directorate is facilitated. Drones will transmit real-time images of traffic on central roads to the control center, so orders will be transmitted to inspectors to reduce traffic congestion.
The first positive feedback from the pilot flights that took samples of the information (surveying roads) was received last week. Drones flew over Kifisias and Mesogion avenues for the first time. It is typical that before the work of drones during rush hours, a car needed 40-45 minutes to cross Mesogion Avenue, and after the work of aerial surveillance – 9-13 minutes (that is, problems that arose on the road were quickly resolved).
Besides traffic jams Police now have a complete picture of double-parked cars, which impede the movement of other cars, reports Apogematini. By the end of February, cameras on dedicated bus lanes will begin to record violations and then send notices to vehicle owners electronically.
