Wine Trophy: competition for the best Greek wines

The 24th Thessaloniki Wine & Spirits Trophy has started, which is one of the most important events in this field, having contributed more than any other event to its qualitative development, as well as to its legislative status.

On 14 and 15 February in Thessaloniki, at the venue of the Thessaloniki Wine & Spirits Trophy, 30 distinguished and world-renowned judges will taste a total of 952 samples of spirits from Greece and Cyprus participating in this year’s event.

Of these, 880 are dry, sparkling and dessert wines with their subcategories, and 72 are spirits of grape origin (such as tsipouro, vermouth, ouzo and gin).

It is worth noting that the jury is located at 6 tables, where there are 5 taster judges. In addition, there is an assistant referee at each table, so Wine Trophy Thessaloniki can become a training platform for future judges and, of course, professionals in this field.

The competition is headed by the first Μaster of Wine of Greece, Konstantinos Lazarakis, an international professional. It is worth noting that the entire competition evaluation process is carried out electronically, using modern tools and a special support program that guarantees the authenticity of the results.

As a result of the competition regulations and the work of the organizing committee, as well as the Presidential Support Committee, a particularly respected group of experts and representatives of all entities involved in the production of wine and spirits was formed. Thus, the “backbone” of this year’s event consists of representatives:

  • Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food,
  • State Laboratory of General Chemistry,
  • National Interprofessional Organization of Viticulture and Wine,
  • Association of Greek Spirits Manufacturers,
  • Department of Agriculture, University of Thessaloniki ΑΠΘ,
  • Panhellenic Association of Certified Oenologists
  • Association of Winemakers of the Peloponnese.

The results of the 24th Wine & Spirits Trophy in Thessaloniki will be announced on Friday, February 16, on the website www.tiwc.gr. The ceremony for awarding medals to distinguished wines and spirits will take place on Saturday, March 2, in Athens. The ceremony will feature the presentation of the “Greek Wine Industry Award 2024”, as well as the final and awards ceremony of the “Panhellenic Wine Industry Competition 2024”.
