“Easter gift” will be given out earlier this year

Due to the difficult situation of citizens suffering from inflation and lack of funds, the government intends to consider providing new emergency assistance to the most vulnerable groups of the population at Easter.

The discussion of issuing an “Easter gift” (“δώρο Πάσχα”) to vulnerable segments of the population was “started” by the Minister of National Economy and Finance Kostis Hatzidakis, saying that “this corresponds to the progress of the economy.”

“If we have high growth rates, and as was the case in previous years, we will have a positive excess of budget forecasts, we are here to return the budget surplus to society,” the minister said, speaking on Sky TV yesterday.

Tax revenue trends, as well as the 2023 GDP announcement, are expected to “lock in” government decisions to provide new emergency financial assistance to vulnerable households at Easter. It is expected that by By the end of March, the situation regarding the size of the benefit and the number of beneficiaries will become clearer.

Budget progress data expected to be announced on Thursday February, 15show collections exceeding the target in January, and at the end of February, taxpayers must close out the previous year’s tax liability by paying the 2024 filing fees and the last installment of income taxes and ENFIA for 2023.

The surplus in tax revenues last year and the possible exceeding of the primary target of a surplus of 1.1% of GDP in 2023 create conditions for the implementation of measures in favor of vulnerable groups of the population, which, however, will not undermine the country’s fiscal stability.

If a decision is made to provide an emergency benefit, it will be similar to that paid at Christmas as an emergency social solidarity benefit to the 2.3 million citizens, families with children and people with special needs who receive benefits CUSTODY and low-retirement people.
