Velopoulos: “All MPs should declare whether they are gay so we know why they will vote for the bill”

Kyriakos Velopoulos invited deputies to personally declare whether they are gay or not. If so, then, according to the president of the right-wing Hellenic Solution party, there is a conflict of interest.

President of the right-wing party “Ελληνική Λύση” (Greek Solution), commenting on the statement of the parliamentarian from “Πλεύση Ελευθερίας” (Freedom of Movement) Spyros Bibila, who called on the church to “tell us how many gay priests there are,” said: “Why don’t we ask how many homosexuals are there?” In other words, to know how they will vote on the marriage bill.

To find out whether we are voting for our own priorities and desires or for the Greek people. Because if I am a ship owner and a member of parliament, and I come here to vote for tax breaks for ship owners, this will be a conflict of interest. So let all the deputies officially come out and say: “I am this or that.” To know who will vote for the bill and why.”
Velopoulos’ statement prompted a reaction from PASOK parliamentary representative Michalis Katrini. “Velopoulos said that if an MP is homosexual, he should come forward because he said he would be interested in a marriage bill, just as a shipping MP would be if there was a shipping bill. What are we hearing? This man does not understand which ward he is in. He should be called to order, and what he said should be deleted from the protocol,” – he said.

Also responding to his inappropriate reference to “gay priests,” Bibilas noted: “I said this not from the rostrum of the House, but in a moment of tension,” and added: “Actors have the right to express their opinions. Greeks have the right to be irreligious and to be patriots. I am not religious, but I am a Greek, just like Mr. Velopoulos and I I will defend my country to the last drop of blood.”

The MP “Ελληνική Λύση” supported his president. Mr. Konstantinos Chytas tried to answer from the position of “Ελληνική Λύση”. Addressing PASOK, he said: “It is impudent to address Mr. Velopoulos in such an Italian manner. Be careful. You may be influenced by the stagnation in the polls.” And he remarked to Mr. Bibilas: “This is the Greek parliament. Are you telling me that it is a right to be irreligious? And what do you mean to tell us that it is a right not to be a patriot?”
