Eva Kylie stripped of immunity

In the European Parliament on February 6, deputies unanimously voted to deprive Greek former Vice-President of the European Parliament Eva Kaili of parliamentary immunity.

How tells Deutsche Welle, this is not related to Qatargate corruption scandal, in which she appears. We are talking about Kylie’s possible involvement in a fraud amounting to 150 thousand euros, which occurred in 2015.

The vote took place in response to a request from the European Office for the Prevention of Abuse and Fraud (OLAF). Politico notes that Belgian MEP Mark Tarabella, who, along with Kylie, appears in Qatargate, also took part in it.

According to OLAF, Kylie, together with former assistants, organized a scheme of false employment and kickbacks, thanks to which she was able to embezzle up to 150 thousand euros of budget funds. If she is found guilty, under Greek law she faces between five and 15 years in prison.

Let us remind you that in addition to Eva Kylie, several members of the European Parliament appear in “Catargate”. The Belgian prosecutor’s office suspects that Qatar and Morocco tried through them to “influence the decisions of the European Parliament with the help of significant sums of money and gifts.” Both countries deny the accusations. During the investigation, Belgian authorities confiscated one and a half million euros in cash.
