Members of the European Parliament have declared the upcoming presidential elections in Russia incompetent

MEP Riho Terras invited deputies to sign a statement on the incompetence of the upcoming presidential elections in the Russian Federation, it was approved and signed by deputies from

Bulgaria, Estonia, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, Sweden, Slovakia, Romania, Finland, Czech Republic, Denmark and Hungary.

MEPs from 15 countries in a joint statement call on the countries of the European Union not to recognize the results of the upcoming presidential elections in Russia in March. As Terrasa stated, holding elections in the territories occupied and annexed by the Russian Federation is a farce:

“This is contrary to the principles of democracy. It is impossible to recognize such criminal activity as legitimate. It is obvious that Putin will win this election. Opposition and dissent are suppressed. Freedom of speech and assembly is limited, and instead of a free press, only the dictator’s propaganda is available. Western countries must clearly state that they do not recognize Putin as the president of Russia.”

The statement calls the elections in the Russian Federation illegitimate, quotes BB.LV. “The coming to power of Vladimir Putin, who will be re-elected president in these elections, will not be legitimate, therefore, starting with his re-inauguration, EU must regard it as illegitimate,” said the statement, which was received by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Charles Michel and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell.
