On January 25, the Moscow City Court sentenced Igor Girkin (Strelkov) to four years in a general regime colony. As an option, he can volunteer for the front.
Strelkov faces an appeal and cassation against the court decision that sentenced him to four years in prison. He was found guilty under Part 2 of Art. 280 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public calls for extremist activities).
However, as Girkin’s lawyer says, “there is always the possibility of getting a conditional early discharge, there is always the opportunity to ask to go to the front.” Moreover, Igor Girkin himself has repeatedly stated that he wants to volunteer for the front, writes publication “Correspondent”.
Before his arrest, Girkin publicly criticized Vladimir Putin. He is also on the international wanted list in the case of the destruction of Malaysian Boeing flight MH17 in the skies over Donbass. On November 17, 2022, the District Court of The Hague sentenced Girkin to life imprisonment, he and two other terrorists were found guilty of murder 298 times – each passenger and crew member of MH17.
