Greece: Unemployment fell to 9.2% in December


The country’s unemployment rate fell to 9.2% in December last year from upwardly revised 12.2% in December 2022 and 9.4% in November 2023.

The number of unemployed people amounted to 430,088 people, which is 146,424 people less than in December 2022 (25.4%) and 746 people less than in November 2023 (0.2%).

The unemployment rate for women rose to 11.7% from 16.2% in December 2022, and for men it rose to 7.1% from 8.9%. By major age group: in the 15-24 group, the unemployment rate was 22.3%, up from 30.4% in December 2022, and in the 25-74 group, the unemployment rate was 8.3%, up from 11.2%.

Also, according to ΕΛΣΤΑΤemployment amounted to 4,264,292 people, an increase of 102,064 people compared to December 2022 (2.5%) and 97,732 people compared to November 2023 (2.3%).

At the same time, the number of citizens under the age of 75 who are not part of the labor force (not working and not looking for work) amounted to 3,093,407 people, which is 14,960 people more than in December 2022 (0.5%).
