Albanian criminal arrested on airport warrant released on bail hours later

A 48-year-old Albanian citizen was arrested at Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport in Athens on Wednesday morning. The man, known as “Albanian Takis”, was detained on the basis of an arrest warrant issued for his involvement in a car bombing with one fatality and other criminal activities. He arrived from Great Britain.

A few hours later he was released on bail of 10,000 euros. A man known in nightlife circles as “Albanian Takis,” accused of premeditated murder by bombing, has denied charges related to a car bombing that occurred in Attiki Odos in Athens in 2014, the news site reported. news247.gr. The driver of the car, an Albanian citizen who worked as a security guard, was killed, but the passenger, his girlfriend, survived with serious injuries.

The man was the main suspect in the bombing and was under investigation; authorities issued a warrant for his arrest. He was arrested in January 2021 in Lamia when, together with the famous “godfather” of the southern suburbs of Athens, they went after Alker Rizai, a notorious Albanian criminal who was on leave from prison.

During a random check, police discovered that Takis had an outstanding warrant for a mafia execution at a well-known bar in Glyfada in October 2017. “Takis” was arrested and taken into custody, but after some time he was released from prison under restrictive conditions. He denied all charges.

In conversation with protothema.gr Takis’ lawyer said the ball now goes to the Judicial Council, which will decide on his impeachment. Citing lawyer, police news site lawandorder.gr reported that “Takis” had specially come from London to give evidence and knew that he would be arrested.

It is worth noting that the court decision prohibiting him from leaving Greece was issued on January 23, 2024.
