Patrolling on the streets of the city took place for two days, January 26 and 27, 2024, in the areas of Kolonos, Kallithea, Acropolis, Omonia and in the center of Athens in general.
In recent weeks, authorities have raised the “alarm” about an increase in crime on the streets of central Athens. In this regard, the Greek police carried out appropriate operational measures. As a result, over two days, 20 people were arrested, 4 robberies and 8 cases of fraud were solved. Thirteen people were arrested for crimes related to drugs, weapons, and also for receiving proceeds of crime.
After analyzing the information received by the police, it was established that a group of people was stealing wallets and mobile phones, stealing bicycles, etc. During operational actions on January 27, members of the criminal group were arrested. During the investigations, the following were discovered and confiscated:
- knives,
- Cell phones,
- bicycles,
- 419.2 grams of hemp,
- 400 euros,
- 18 grams of heroin
- 1 scales.
Also detained were 2 people, members of another gang that produced false documents, and 1 of them was additionally accused of drug distribution.
3 people were detained for creating a gang that committed fraud against citizens, while 1 of the 3 was additionally accused of drug distribution.
1 person was arrested for vehicle theft and drug possession. During the preliminary investigation, it turned out that the man was also involved in the theft of the car.
Cases have been opened against 25 people for thefts from homes, shops, vehicles and robberies.
In two cases, it was discovered that the individuals involved used a vehicle that had been stolen in the past year and was used in two gas station robberies.
