Created by DELL E3

Fruits are a healthy and nutritious choice for your daily diet. However, there are certain combinations of them that can be harmful to health.

No matter how healthy and tasty the fruit you decide to eat or add to your salad, you need to know Which of these fruits should not be eaten together and why?. Dr Swathi Reddy, Consultant Physiotherapist and Registered Dietitian, explains which fruit combinations can be hazardous to your health.

Harmful fruit combinations: how they affect the body
In general, fruits are considered nutritious, rich in vitamins and minerals. However, they can be divided into different categories such as sour, high water content, sweet and neutral. Most of us have the habit of cutting up all the available fruits and vegetables and mixing them in a bowl, resulting in a fruit salad.

Although fruits are very healthy, mixing different types of fruits with vegetables and other fruits may cause digestive problems and some serious chronic health problems. 4 Toxic Fruit Combinations to Avoid:

  1. Melon with other fruits.
  2. Starchy fruits rich in protein.
  3. Sour fruits with sweet ones.
  4. Papaya with lemon.

Never combine melon with other fruits
Melon contains a lot of water and dietary fiber. When combined with other fruits, it can create an acidic environment in the stomach, which can lead to indigestion. Additionally, the fiber in melon can interact with the fiber in other fruits and cause bloating and cramps.

Dr. Reddy explains that melons should be eaten separately. “Melons digest faster than other fruits, so when combined with other fruits, they may not be digested properly,” says the expert.

Don’t combine starchy fruits with protein foods

Bananas are rich in starch, a carbohydrate that the body needs to produce energy. Protein-rich fruits such as dried apricots, kiwi, avocado and blueberries contain protein, which is essential for tissue growth and repair. The combination of these two factors can be dangerous because The body needs an acid base to digest proteins and an alkaline base to break down starch.

Don’t combine sour and sweet fruits
Sour and hypoacid fruits such as grapefruits, strawberries, apples, pomegranates and peaches should never be combined with sweet fruits such as bananas and raisins. This combination can lead to digestive problems, nausea and headaches.

Don’t mix papaya and lemon
Anemia or hemoglobin imbalance are some of the consequences of mixing these fruits. Moreover, according to Dr. Reddy, this can be very dangerous for children, so these fruits should be avoided as much as possible.

Avoid eating fruits and vegetables together
Combining fruits and vegetables is not recommended because the high sugar content of fruits can make vegetables difficult to digest. This is because sugar can slow down the release of digestive juices needed to break down food. So, for example, eating oranges and carrots together may not be the best option for your stomach!

Although fruits are an excellent source of potassium, vitamin C, folic acid and other essential antioxidants for the body, consuming them in excess can also have negative effects. To enjoy the benefits of fruits and vegetables without harming your health, it is best to eat them separately.
