Sweden immediately stops aid to Mali because of Ukraine

The Swedish government is stopping aid to the African country of Mali because it voted against the UN General Assembly resolution on the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine.

How reports BB.LV, the following statement was made by the Kingdom’s Minister of Aid and Foreign Trade, Johan Forssell:

“When we cooperate with other countries, we want them to also want to cooperate with Sweden, but instead Mali supports Russia’s actions in Ukraine.”

Over the past ten years, Mali has received more than SEK 3.5 billion ($352 million) in development aid from Sweden.

Earlier, Troels Lund Poulsen, the Danish Minister of Defense, following negotiations with his Swedish counterpart Paul Johnson, announced that the countries would send CV90 combat vehicles worth $263.6 million to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In addition, the countries will transfer spare parts and ammunition to Ukraine, and enter into a multi-year maintenance agreement.

Sweden is allocating 1.4 billion kroner (120 million euros) to Ukraine, which, in particular, will be used to support the country’s population on the eve of winter. The funds will be used to support power supply and heating systems and the construction of shelters in schools.
