Kidnapping of a 29-year-old computer scientist for cryptocurrency

In photographs published by the media, the 29-year-old computer scientist looks shocked after the twists and turns that befell him.

After the abduction, the young man, as can be seen in the photographs, has pieces of electrical tape on his arms, neck and even on his hood. An employee of the gas station where the man got to when he managed to escape from the kidnappers described the first moments to the MEGA channel.

“A strange man appeared. He looked lost, as if he was “out of space and time.” He turned to us for help. The first thing he told us was: “I want to talk to mom. I managed to get out.” He moaned. An employee named Michalis added: “We made three phone calls. The first – to the police, the second – to his mother, and the third – to his girlfriend. He asked us to help him.”

He then said that the kidnappers “wrapped him with duct tape.” Hood, neck, arms, legs, knees. He managed to break the handcuffs, which, according to him, were not the same as those used by the police, but simpler ones.

It all happened on Wednesday afternoon when at least two criminals immobilized a man near his friend’s house under the pretext of conducting a police check in the Agios Panteleimons Kalyvia area. Then unknown persons handcuffed the programmer and put him in a car. They then took him to the forest, dropped him off and placed him in the trunk. The guy was robbed of two mobile phones, a wallet, house keys, and bank cards, for which he was forced to reveal his PIN codes, and was also forced to use fingerprint to access the application for managing an electronic wallet with cryptocurrency.

Immediately after this, the attackers transferred cryptocurrency totaling 3,000 euros to their account. Then, after putting the programmer back in the car, they tied his hands, feet and head with duct tape, and handcuffed him to the steering wheel of the car.

However, the man managed to free himself and walked to a gas station located at the 44th kilometer of L. Anavissos, where, with the help of an employee, he also notified the Immediate Action Service about the incident.

Direct Action police immediately arrived on the scene and spotted a man (according to MEGA, he is a 24-year-old Moldavian) coming out of an apartment building in Ampelokipi. As soon as the criminal noticed their presence, he tried to escape. A chase ensued and the police managed to stop him on Dimoharus Street and take him to GADA.
