Greece: mobile wallet for security and more

Entrance to Greek stadiums will be changed: those wishing to watch the match will use an encrypted electronic ticket in the gov.gr wallet.

Commenting on the use of the app, Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou says: “Technology is our absolute ally.” Logging in using a mobile wallet is a fast and secure process: everyone will be allowed to log in from their phone, and fans will be able to attend matches, giving authorities the ability to know the identities of those entering.

Ticket, tells newsbeast.gr, will be stored in the digital wallet of the mobile phone after citizens go through a certain procedure. Let us remind you that Gov.gr Wallet is an application with which you can, after “downloading” it, create and store important public digital documents. Mr. Dimitris Papastergiou stated:

“It is the will of the government, expressed by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, that stadiums will once again become not only places for sports competitions, but also contribute to the harmonious meeting of all sports lovers. In this direction, we, as the Ministry of Digital Governance, declare that technology is our greatest ally and can provide a solution to this problem. The system we propose is different from the one we have had so far. This is not just an electronic ticket, it has additions and an identification process that takes advantage of all the possibilities offered by modern technology.

With Deputy Minister of Sports Yiannis Vroutsis, Minister of Citizen Protection Yiannis Ikonomou, representatives of the teams, the Super League and EL.AS. we have had a fruitful and productive dialogue, as a result of which I maintain the common belief among us all that with the help of a coalition of our forces, we can achieve success and feel safe in our stadiums, without the need for the state to “consume” important human resources from the police, to ensure that we don’t have any incidents. This is a universal requirement that we will work to achieve systematically and as a team.

To use the Gov.gr Wallet app, citizens will need personal Taxisnet access codes and a certified mobile phone numberwhich is verified solely by registering information with the National Communications Register (NMR).

Once the person concerned has purchased their e-ticket, they will go to gov.gr, enter the taxinet codes, then “lock” the ticket with a specific number and it will be sent to the user’s mobile phone, where it will be stored in the wallet. When a citizen enters the stadium, he approaches the turnstiles with a mobile phone in hand, NFC technology will “read” the ticket in a contactless manner, and if it is valid, entry will be allowed. Wherein information about who entered the stadium will be recorded.

In case anyone wants to give their mobile phone to another person, There are cameras that will record who entered and with whose mobile phone. The goal is for electronic identification to be integrated with cameras that are legally present in stadiums.

As for minors, they will be able to “block” their ticket on the mobile phone of their parent or guardian. In cases where the minor is 14–17 years old, the parent will send the ticket to the child’s mobile phone.

According to the information, decisions on additional cases that are being studied will also be given within a short period of time. For example, what will happen if the mobile phone battery runs out during entry, or in cases of elderly people who may not have a mobile phone, or for tourists.

It should be noted that this proposal concerns a modern and innovative system for identifying ticket holders, this is an automatic process, without verification by an individual.
