Randy: 18-year-old accused is ready to “turn in his mentor”

An 18-year-old accused who critically injured a police officer during the Rendi riots is ready to “turn in” the man who handed him a naval flare, investigators have said.

The teenager, who applied for Witness Protection but was denied, says he did not intend to harm the officer and was away from the victim at the time of the attack, and does not name his “mentor,” according to police.

It is worth noting that he could not fall under the program, since he is already an accused in the case, and not a witness. According to some reports, the young man is afraid to express his opinion, and his parents allegedly complained that after the incident they received death threats against their child.

“Mentor” and “tough” hooligans under the gun of the Greek police

The “management” of the fan club and the “cool” fans are under close police scrutiny, and according to media reports, the authorities should soon make more arrests, since, apparently, dozens of hooligans involved in the incidents are known for fan violence and have been prosecuted in the past for drug use and extortion.

This is also the reason why the teenager is afraid to testify against his “mentor”, but it is possible that he will give new information about the person who gave him the rocket and reveal key figures involved in organizing the riots.

According to available information, experienced investigators are actively collecting information about the “mentor”, who is probably an organized fan and it is possible that after the incidents in Renty he managed to leave this place without returning to the stadium.

“The guy with the hooded face gave me a rocket.”

The suspect arrived at the Piraeus court on Thursday morning along with his lawyer Apostolos Lytras and admitted that he had indeed participated in the riots near the Melina Mercouri stadium in Renti. According to court sources, the teenager allegedly stated in his apology to the inquiry officer that he went to the stadium with friends and his brother when at one point he saw many people leaving and out of curiosity, went out himself. Then a man with a hooded face and a long beard approached him and gave him a flare, telling him to fire it.

At the same time, he said that this man showed him how to launch it, but when he launched the rocket, he was grabbed by the arm, and the flare, falling to the ground, rose in front of him and flew towards the police officer. The young man stated that at the same time he saw another flare of a different color, which was flying towards the policeman. His rocket was orange… He also claims that he had not used such a rocket before and had no intention of launching it at a police officer.

It should be noted that the arrested person has been charged with incitement, attempted murder, possession of explosives and incendiary substances, explosion likely to endanger a person, disturbing the peace of the family and possession of fireworks, all of which were committed with aggravating circumstances under the Law on sports
