Petraeus: lack of weapons caused the failure of the Ukrainian Armed Forces counter-offensive

Former CIA chief David Petraeus, speaking at the presentation of his book “Conflict: The Evolution of Warfare from 1945 to Ukraine,” said that the Ukrainian army’s counteroffensive failed due to a lack of weapons.

How tells BB.LV, quoting the politician’s words on the YouTube channel publications The Washington Post, the shortage of weapons and the delay in their shipment, the underestimation of Russia’s military capabilities and its defense potential can be called the reasons for the failure of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ counteroffensive:

“I don’t think anyone really realized or appreciated the depth of the minefields, that Russia really built the defenses very correctly, the multiple lines and so on.”

Petraeus recalled that the United States did not agree for a long time to send Abrams A1 tanks to Ukraine, which also affected the delay in sending Leopard tanks to Germany. Washington also hesitated for a long time to send cluster munitions and Western aircraft. This whole set of factors, according to the analyst, played a decisive role in the failure of the counteroffensive, since Western military doctrine assumes air superiority to break through the defense.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky earlier in an interview with The Associated Press statedthat the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian army did not bring the desired results:“We wanted faster results. From this point of view, unfortunately, we did not achieve the desired results. And this is a fact. There is not enough strength to achieve the desired results faster. But this does not mean that we should give up, that we should give up “We are confident in our actions. We fight for what belongs to us.”
