Based on intelligence, the IDF confirmed on Friday, December 1, that five hostages had died in Hamas captivity.
IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari said that the families of the victims were notified of the death of their loved ones, and the body of one hostage was returned to Israel by the military. The IDF statement said:
“This happened after a commission of experts from the Ministry of Health, together with the Institute of Forensic Medicine, the Chief Rabbi of Israel and the Ministry of Religious Affairs, determined their deaths based on the intelligence collected.”
All those killed at the time of the Hamas attack lived in Kibbutz Nir Oz. At a press conference, Hagari stated, quotes DW:
“We continue to make numerous intelligence and operational efforts to provide information regarding the conditions of the hostages.”
According to data from the Israeli military as of December 1, 136 people remain in Hamas captivity, including 17 women and children. During the truce that was interrupted December 1, 110 people were returned from captivity.
