Truce and exchange continue: Hamas releases second group of hostages

Hamas has handed over a second group of 20 hostages – 13 Israelis and seven foreigners – to the Red Cross in the Gaza Strip, the IDF confirms.

Previously action films like reports DW, delayed the release of the hostages, accusing Israel of violating the agreement. Yesterday evening, November 25, the al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian terrorist movement Hamas, announced the transfer of 20 hostages to the Red Cross in the Gaza Strip for Israel: 13 Israelis and seven foreigners. The IDF confirmed that the Israelis released from captivity have already entered Egyptian territory, and four Thai citizens were transported with them. The freed hostages later arrived in Israel.

Four of those released also have German citizenship, said German Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock – a 67-year-old woman, her 38-year-old daughter and children aged 3 and 8 years.

Israel released 39 Palestinian prisoners: six women and 33 male minors. They were delivered to East Jerusalem and the West Bank, Middle Eastern media write.

Hamas was supposed to release the second batch of hostages several hours earlier, but the militants refused, accusing Israel of violating its obligations under the four-day truce. He allegedly refused to allow humanitarian aid trucks to enter the northern Gaza Strip. It is unknown whether such a clause actually existed in the agreement between Israel and Hamas. As a result, the militants, under pressure from Qatar, agreed to hand over 20 hostages.

Previously, Israel received a list of 14 hostages whom Hamas planned to release on November 25. Information about the exchange of 14 Israelis for 42 Palestinians was confirmed to journalists by Egyptian officials.

On the first day of the temporary ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, November 24, Hamas militants released 13 Israeli women and children, and 11 foreigners – 10 Thais and one Filipino. In response, Israel released 39 Palestinians – women and minors – from its prisons.

The truce is intended to last four days. During this time, 50 Israeli hostages and 150 Palestinian prisoners should be released. The terms of the agreement also include: the suspension of Israeli aviation flights over the Gaza Strip for six hours a day, the daily entry into all areas of the strip of 200 trucks with humanitarian aid and medicine, as well as four trucks with fuel.
