The KKE group, which was especially large this year, was followed by the youth of the party and PAME. At the rear of the procession were groups from SYRIZA, MePA25 and PASOK.

The demonstration was attended by KKE Secretary General Dimitris Koutsoumbas, SYRIZA President Stefanos Kasselakis, as well as politicians from opposition parties.

Ms. Martha, 70, who spoke to reporters, said she has been coming to the march since the early years, noting that she expects greater participation and density in the neighborhoods.

They were followed by the Association of Imprisoned Exiles of the Resistance 1967-1974, holding a banner with the slogan “Resistance forever against fascism.”

Throughout the march, police controlled traffic and several metro stations remained closed.
