Z. Konstantopoulou: "Investigate the judge – she was the presiding judge in the Faliro, Mandra and Matiu cases"

Zoe Konstantopoulou, president of the Freedom Course party and lawyer for the families of the victims of the fire in Mati, spoke at a plenary session of parliament, where she demanded an investigation into the chairman of the court.

How come she presided over three related cases – Faliro, Mandra And Mati. The flood in Mandre also led to numerous casualties – 24 people were killed.

“I deeply believe in justice, and I am ashamed of today’s decision of the Athens Court of First Instance in the Mati crime case. It is shameful that the court, instead of doing the obvious, that is, establishing that what happened was a criminal offense, that it should have been tried by a joint jury and brought before a competent court, has today decided that the 15 main accused, including the selected persons of Mr. Mitsotakis, including Ms. Doura, are innocent. They are all innocent,” said the president of the Course of Freedom party. “This court decision says that ultimately no one is to blame,” – she said.

Athens News reported earlier that on Monday, April 29, the court sentenced defendants in the case of a deadly fire in the suburban resort town of Mati, where 104 people died at the end of July 2018. Of the 21 accused, 16 were found innocent, and 6 were charged under various charges (mostly negligent homicide of 5 to 104 people), and… all convicts were released from the courtroom.

Sentence has already caused indignation among the relatives of the victims and is highly likely to cause a wave of negative reaction in society.
