Refugees in Greece receive emergency training

A group of refugees in Greece have completed emergency training. The first stage of the training, funded by European Union funds, ended on Tuesday with an exercise and the presentation of certificates at the Ministry of Migration and Asylum.

The training was carried out by the Greek fire brigade. It included three different emergency plans that refugees performed alongside firefighters: pulling a woman from a fire, evacuating a burning building (similar training is carried out during earthquake evacuations), and helping to extinguish a fire and evacuate residents from a fire. .

The program is financed from the Recovery Fund EU and is carried out by the International Organization for Migration under the leadership of the Deputy Minister of Migration and Asylum responsible for integration, Sofia Vultepsi, and under the operational leadership of the fire brigade, coordinated by fire captain Kalliopi Saini.

According to Vultepsi, “Greece is the only country in the European Union that has decided to use the resources of the Recovery Fund for the integration of refugees and migrants.” She added that about 400 refugees from 22 countries “create an integration network, increasing the level of security inside and outside the facilities.”
