He noted that the crisis in the Middle East has increased the sense of urgency to adopt a common migration policy at the level of the European Union. The Minister, in particular, noted that “Today the number of returned migrants is low and should be increased through a pan-European mechanism that coordinates and obliges countries of origin to return their citizens.”
As expected, Kairidis did not specify what mechanism would be used to oblige countries of origin to do so, especially in an environment where “false countries of origin”. Moreover, as Minister for Migration and Asylum, he must know that in order for citizens to return, bilateral agreements must be signed with countries of origin.
However, Kairidis appears to be proud of his statement and proposal, and claims that “This will send a strong deterrent message to human trafficking networks and reduce migrant flows.”
And then he and all his colleagues on the Council of Ministers EU on migration, held on Thursday in Luxembourg, went to a nearby restaurant to enjoy lunch and be content with the fact that, as usual, they made a lot of statements that have no meaning or consequences…
