Greek police arrested a 35-year-old Turkish citizen of Kurdish origin, against whom a European arrest warrant had been issued. The man is believed to be a PKK recruiter.
He was arrested during a routine check in the Athens district of Exarchia on Tuesday evening. The man has been sentenced by French authorities to two years in prison for recruiting members into the militant Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
At the time of his arrest, the criminal was accompanied by two of his Kurdish compatriots and a Belgian woman. They were also taken to the local police station but were reportedly later released.
In response, Kurds living in Greece held a protest rally, which took place on the evening of October 10 along the central streets of Athens.
