Three NATO countries have taken the initiative – they want to join their efforts in demining the Black Sea.
How reports Bloomberg, there is now an active discussion of the possibilities that Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey have for implementing the plan. The initiative is purely peaceful; there are no plans to use NATO ships. Its goal is to demonstrate that the three countries are quite capable of independently solving the current problem.
The publication notes, citing words from two unnamed sources, that a specific plan is at the development stage, but a special unit may appear as early as next month.
The creation of a mine clearance unit would be the first major joint action by the allies in the Black Sea since Russia began a full-scale war in Ukraine.
