Greece has recorded a rapid increase in the number of industrial accidents in 2023, with a chilling list reaching 147, according to data provided by the Federation of Technical Workers’ Associations of Greece.
The corresponding number of accidents at work for the entire 2022, according to ΟΣΕΤΕΕ, was 104. Moreover, according to ELSTATin 2018 there were 46 deaths, in 2019 – 51, in 2020 – 41 and in 2021 – 31.
According to the federation’s statement, “the rapid increase in the number of industrial accidents has alarmed European institutions and collective bodies in Europe.” As a result, “as a sign of practical support”, as ΟΣΕΤΕΕ emphasizes, on Monday 9 October, at 11:30, a conference will be held at the Novus Hotel in Metaxourgio Square in Athens, at which the Secretary of the ETUC Confederation, Giulio Romani, President of the European Organization for Safety and Health at Work, will be speaking and safety, as well as the Minister of Health ΓΣΕΕ Andreas Stoimenidis.
“The conference will highlight the issue of “human sacrifice” in the workplace and will present proposals at European and national level.
