Aristea Pantazopoulou, who suffered severe injuries and burns during the deadly 2007 fires, has died aged 67.
She and her husband tried to save their property and get the animals out of the pen. The situation unfolded in the area between Artemis and Smyrna in Ilia. Unfortunately, the fire surrounded the couple and they both suffered serious burns.
Aristea Pantazopoulou, as reported by patrisnews.gr, spent a long time in the Errikos Dounan hospital and for another three years in the special rehabilitation department at the Olympion Clinic in Patras. All this time she was fighting her own battle for life and was in a coma. She always had caring and loving daughters next to her.
The woman did not receive the slightest help either from the state or from any other body.
The funeral of Aristea Pantazopoulou will take place on Wednesday afternoon at 17:30 in Artemis, her mother’s village. There, fellow villagers will say goodbye to the courageous woman.
